Friday September 24th - Celebrating my daughter

As I have previously mentioned this was my daughter's 18th birthday and originally she was going to stay at University for the weekend, but decided to come home.

It was so nice to be able to see her today as I reminisced about that day 18 years ago when her Daddy and I welcomed her into the world.

It's nice to have these positive things to focus on.

I went to Costco and picked up 2 dozen roses.  I fired up the Cricut, got out my coloured vinyl and cut out "HAPPY 18TH DEB" in 5" and covered one of the front windows with the letters so she would see it as she pulled into the driveway.

The roses were lovingly arranged on the foyer table, along with a birthday card I made.
Here are a few pics:

Deb and I then met my oldest son for dinner at a wonderful Japanese restaurant where we had Teppanyaki.  It was totally delicious -- we ordered surf n' turf for 3. :)

Here's my son, Mark and the birthday girl:

And for the piece de resistance, she had to dress up for the traditional birthday photo:

It was a good day :)

Watercolour, Paint Chips, & Chinese Paint

Paint Chips strike again!!! (news at 11)   :)

I took a bit of a detour from my usual interaction with paint chips, and took one of of one of the Decorating 'books' available beside the paint chips.  What I like about these is that there are no numbers on the colour and they are already 'framed'.
They are the perfect size to incorporate into an ATC, too.

Like one of these from Olympic Paint

I cut out a colour and left a little white border around it. You could take a stamp and stamp each rectangle first, and then cut them out.

I stamped a small floral motif on the chip first and then started painting.

I added some glitter glue for good luck!

Quick and easy!

Watercolours and Chinese Paint

Just to shake things up a bit, I broke out the paints for a brief visit.

I decided to use a piece of 200lb warm pressed paper that has been floating around here for a little while. It seemed to handle the Chinese paint much better than my watercolour paints -- I am quite surprised.

Truth be told, I had some indigo paste just sitting there on a plate and, well, you know... I just COULDN'T throw it out.

A decision had to be made: The paint must be used!

Interesting how the matting changes the visual experience.

Deborah's Birthday Week - Card #2

For Deborah

I love pink and green!

The button is threaded with pretty yarn remnants.
I used  blank business cards as a base for the squares below each pink ribbon.
For the marble effect I drizzled glue on the card first and let it dry.  I then applied pink ,light blue and light green inks.
I love the American Crafts pearl brads.
 Card stock is Provocraft.

A Mystery Package arrived yesterday.... UPDATE! UPDATE!

One of the wonderful benefits of belonging to an on-line community like CreatingTheHive is that you meet very talented people.

Alyice Edrich, of The Dabbling Mum has come up with a wonderful concept she calls, "The Mystery Art Grab Bag Project".  Here is an example of one she is currently showing on her site.

I am one of the lucky recipients of one of these Mystery Bags.  For only $15 (U.S.) she will ship you a selection of her original art.  It is a great concept and makes a wonderful gift for a crafter.

Crafters love to experiment, share, and truly appreciate each other's work.

I have created a video review which I'm hoping might become a regular feature for me.

In the meantime, here are a few pictures of MY Mystery Grab Bag.

Here's the video -- First time I'm using this software - I'll create at a higher resolution next time. :)

The Wall - A Breakthrough

I am afraid of the pain
of grief
of loss
of feeling
                            anything.

My wall protects me from feeling.
I am safe behind my wall

But
Until I break down the wall I will not feel sunshine, love, happiness, contentment.

The wall has to come down.
