Lunch with the girls (through the ages)

This was sent to me from one of MY lifelong girlfriends. Denise and I have been friends since Grade 7. I needed this laugh tonight; I hope you will laugh too:)

Girlfriends Forever!!!!
Part of OUR dinner group.  Only problem is that Denise is taking the picture:)
Lunch with the girls through the ages

A group of 15-year-old girlfriends discussed where to meet for dinner. Finally, they agreed to meet at the Dairy Queen next to the Ocean View restaurant because they had only $6.00 among them and Jimmy Johnson, the cute boy in Social Studies, lived on that street

10 years later, the group of 25-year-old girlfriends discussed where to meet for dinner. Finally, they agreed to meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the beer was cheap, the restaurant offered free snacks, the band was good, there was no cover and there were lots of cute guys.

10 years later, the group of 35-year-old girlfriends discussed where to meet for dinner Finally, they agreed to meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the cosmos were good, it was right near the gym and, if they went late enough, there wouldn't be too many whiny little kids.

10 years later, the group of 45-year-old girlfriends discussed where to meet for dinner. Finally, they agreed to meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the martinis were big and the waiters had tight pants and nice buns.

10 years later, the group of 55-year-old girlfriends discussed where to meet for dinner. Finally, they agreed to meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the prices were reasonable, the wine list was good, the restaurant had windows that opened (in case of a hot flashes), and fish is good for cholesterol.

10 years later, the group of 65-year-old girlfriends discussed where to meet for dinner Finally, they agreed to meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the lighting was good and the restaurant had an early bird special.

10 years later, the group of 75-year-old girlfriends discussed where to meet for dinner. Finally, they agreed to meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the food was not too spicy and the restaurant was handicapped-accessible.

10 years later, the group of 85-year-old girlfriends discussed where to meet for dinner. Finally, they agreed to meet at the Ocean View restaurant because they had never been there before.

Photography Is Art - In the Zone June 6,2011

As Cyn Gagen and Robi Cohen continue their adventure through Art History, tonight's stop was a wonderful visit with 'Photography'.
Lisa Snow Photography
The actual 'era' was known as Photorealism and it was very popular in the latter part of the 20th century.  Why paint a picture that looks exactly like a painting?  I don't know, but I know it's not easy to do.

We wanted to look at Photography as a bone fide art form.  Our guest tonight was Lisa Snow a photographer and artist from British Columbia, Canada.

Lisa has enjoyed her art as a hobby for most of her life but her professional quality creations have definitely moved beyond the 'hobby phase'.

I encourage you to visit her blog http://itssnowwonder.blogspot.com    and also her photo slide show .  In order to access the flickr photos, you will need to enter 'creativeedventures' as the password.

Lisa explained how she likes to use her photography.  Her planning starts well before she takes that first snapshot. She has to decide what 'feel' her finished product will have.  She examines lighting, surroundings and all elements that may add or detract from her shots.

With the introduction of digital photography there are so many wonderful things one can do with a photograph. Lisa however, does not approach a picture with an attitude of 'I'l take my shots and deal with the dropping and editing later'. She carefully plans each and every shot. It is worth it to take a little extra time to wait, or plan your project which will probably save you a lot of time later during the editing process.  Lisa uses Flickr and enjoys its versatililty and accessibility.

Once Lisa has completed a photograph, chances are it will become part of a beautiful piece of jewelry or collage.

Thank you again, Lisa, for donating a beautiful piece of custom jewelry to one of our followers.

Tonight's winner was Amelia! Thank you for coming to the show Amelia,  and Congratulations!

IMPORTANT LINKS MENTIONED DURING THE SHOW:

Thank you to everyone who came out to the show, and if you are planning on watching the playback, I hope you enjoy it!

Next Monday, June 13th, I will have another very special guest on the show (Lisa Fulmer from C&T Publishing) as we celebrate Art History by visiting Picasso and Cubism.
In the Zone Mondays at 9 PM Eastern Standard Time at http://linqto.com/rooms/creativeedventures

Sketchy Sunday

The weather was so beautiful today.  Not too hot, not too cold, just right ( as long as I pulled the sun screen down about 5 feet to cover my highly delicate lotus-blossom-like skin).
With my coffee in one hand, and my sketch book and pencils in the other, I went out to our deck and made myself comfy.

Sassy Lassy Meets Sue!

Multi-media tile. Image courtesy Sue Miller Art
It's been 'multi-media' week around here; I don't remember the last time I made a 'simple card'.  My brain has been in hyper-drive with lots of new and fantastical ideas and I am not getting a lot of sleep. Here is the latest  multi-media 'tile' I finished (today).
This tile is made using a 71/2 square inch corrugated cardboard packing divider.

I gave it a few coats of Liquitex and then began my collage. The black part on the canvas is xray film which I layered over cocktail napkins and patterened paper.  The xray film is SO cool because it is a different surface, it has varying degrees of opacity, and it loves alcohol inks.

The image is from Sue Miller.  Sue has a wonderful set of Art Postcards which (I think) are an incredible deal.  The raised square to the left of our pretty maiden is a tiny wood tile which I decoupaged with the matching cocktail napkin ( only use the printed ply).
I can now use this as a topper for a large card/frameable art, or as a stand-alone piece of art.  I like working on this thick cardboard, or chipbaord first because it allows me to take my time finalizing its ultimate purpose.
Thank you for stopping by,
~Roberta

Handmade Business Cards

Collage of various scraps of paper, tissue, cocktail napkins, and paper quilling.
Use Liquitex or  Mod Podge to apply the pieces.

During Friday June 3rd's webisode of 'Come to Chat' on the Creative EdVentures Network, Cyn Gagen showed how she wants to make her own business cards -- handmade, original and (hopefully) unforgettable.
I couldn't agree more, and as a coincidence, we both have the same base cards to use; leaf-shaped paint chips from Home Depot.
Here are the firs two I ever made.  The are evolving and ideally I would like a nice way to 'print' my business info on the card or print out the info onto a pretty and/or clear label stamp; we'll see.
Painted with Alcohol ink base, a few scraps
of mulberry paper and tissue paper attached.
Paper quilling objects, old business card pieces.
For now I used free business cards I have received from Vista Print and MOO.  I just wanted to see how they look.
Maybe this will inspire you to try to make some of your own!!??
This is what the paint chips look like when you get them from the store.

Thank you for stopping by,
~Robi
