Creative EdVentures Blog Hop is Here!

Hello and welcome to Decorables!  Hopefully you just came from the Creative EdVentures homepage and know what to expect and all the prizes you can win and all the places you can go...........

But I digress.

I have been a fan of Sue Miller's artwork for a little while now and when I found out that her art was now available in rubber stamps, well, I was doing one, crazy happy dance.
I hope you take the time to check out all of Sue's work and also visit Queen Kat Stamps because Vicki, of Queen Kat Stamps, is the one responsible for turning Sue's line art into stamps!
I would have liked to create more projects than just the one, but I grossly underestimated the amount of time involved in helping to run one of these blog hops!
Here is my entry in our blog hop:

I chose to make a keepsake box with the image.  The stamp I chose was 'Angel Knock' and I love Sue's original painting.  I'll be honest that one of the reasons I chose Angel Knock  (and it's a very small reason) is the fact that the face is NOT visible.  I am still not thrilled with my marker/colouring skills when it comes to faces.
The image is nice and crisp and lots of fun to colour and embellish.
I inked around the lid of the box for interest.  The Fabric flowers are Garden of Flowers (A collection of fabric and felt flowers and leaves) by 3birdsdesign  and I used pop dots for dimension when I adhered them to the box.

I started with this heavy-duty gift box.  It is black and once the lide is removed, the front panel of the box actually folds out.
Using Tsukineko  Brilliance in Cosmic Copper and Galaxy Gold, I dabbed the ink around the perimeter of the lid
Using a dry soft rag, I buffed the inks into the lid
I chose a lovely printed acetate as an overlay for the lid, before I placed my image on it.

I measured the size of the cardstock I used to print my image and then cut this paper 1/8 inch larger for matting.

Inking my edges.... I always ink my edges:).
I used the Galaxy Copper to give a lovely gold foil-look border to the paper

Close-up of the box detail; It looks like moire silk.

Close-up of the Glitter pens, Glossy Accents
and Glitter I used to embellish the image.

Someone's knocking at my door.

I decided to be a little unconventional and use a PRINTED paper
onto which I stamped my image.  I chose a vintage rose pattern

I hope you enjoyed what I made and will become a follower of my very active blog.
Please remember to leave a comment below my post, and also return to our HomePage when you are finished hopping.  There are some wonderful prizes to be won and lovely people to visit along the way.

Your next stop is at Karen Campbell's blog!
If you get lost along the way, here is the list of all the participants.

In the Zone ep. June 13, 2011 CUBISM

CUBISM The link for tonight's recording is HERE

The Art Journey continued tonight with Cubism - featuring Pablo Picasso.  I was joined by my special guest, Lisa Fulmer!
Cubism is really a study in time and space, and not about cubes! When you watch the playback you will find out all about this and discover some very interesting facts about cubism and Picasso.
Lisa showed us how to take one of Picasso's famous paintings, and in this case she chose "Two Women Running on the Beach" 1922, and transfer it onto an object.  Lisa chose to transfer the image using TAP (transfer artist paper) placing it on a wooden box.  She chose the wooden box because Picasso originally painted this masterpiece on wood. It turned out beautifully and Lisa was able to share some very valuable tips with us.
I demonstrated how adaptable Picasso's shapes are and I tried to encourage everyone to draw these simple shapes.
Congratulations to our TWO winners for this evening:
Penny and Sheryl
CONGRATULATIONS!
And thank you to Lisa Fulmer for her MORE than GENEROUS prize packages!!!
Please Join Cyn Gagen and me NEXT Monday (June 20th) at 9 PM Eastern for Creative EdVentures In the Zone when we will celebrate:

IMPRESSIONISM!

Serene Sunday

My daughter is still sleeping and I am trying not to disturb her...
I am sitting by the window of my hotel room, cup of coffee in hand,  gazing across the huge expanse of the Ottawa River at the majestic old buildings of my nation's capital. It is beautiful.  The rapids of one of the dams is in view along with the varigated colours of the giant rocks on top of which Ottawa stands. I have the advantage of being across the river from Ottawa, in Gatineau, Quebec. It's like visiting Niagara Falls where the 'good side' is the Canadian side because you can view the American side from there.
It's an overcast day, but that's great for taking photographs and I am looking forward to the sightseeing Deb and I will do on our return trip to Richmond Hill today. There is a beautiful old park across the street from our hotel I plan to visit before we leave town.  Sadly I didn't bring the cord for my camera to upload the pictures I have already taken so all photos will be posted later.
There are many artist communities around, and as luck would have it ( and yes I guess I didn't use up all my luck at the casino yesterday), there is an Artists Studios Tour in Pontiac, Quebec this weekend so we will be stopping there first.
It looks like the sun is trying to come out and it is burning off a lot of the misty haze we had earlier:) I guess this is a good time to wake my daughter, pack up, and move on.
Aurevoir mes amis!
