Old Richmond Hill

I love living in Richmond Hill.  It's a beautiful town just north of Toronto and it has been my home for the past 16 years.  Much has happened since my family, including my parents, moved into our Richmond Hill home.  It looks like we will be moving away from here in the not-too-distant future and I am already feeling nostalgic.  I'm grateful we lived here and that my children were able to attend excellent schools, have good health care and be surrounded by such natural beauty.
The tour begins...

To be continued...

Here is the link for the playback of my show if you missed it:

It was a  SWWYDWTapalooza tonight!  So many entries for 'So, What would you do with this?", and the entries get better and better each week.!

Here are some of the  items up for brainstorming tonight:

So, what would you do with these objects? We came up with dozens of suggestions during the show.  My personal favourite was the shoe inserts and all the wonderful ideas we came up with. I mean, just LOOK at them, they are practically BEGGING to be decorated!

Thank you to all the participants and audience members tonight:).

REMEMBER; every entry submitted for our weekly SWWYDWT segment, gets an entry in my monthly draw for an Amazon.com Gift Card!
Email pics to decorables@rogers.com by Wednesday night of each week.  Thank you!

Window Card

Inspired by the Creating Keepsakes 40k Challenge, I made this window card today.
I used a coloured paper CD holder as my 'window'.

 Steps

  1. Fold bright yellow 12x12 cardstock into quarters to use entire sheet for the card.
  2. Punched corners with Martha Stewart corner punch.
  3. Cut printed vellum to size and punch all corners.
  4. Adhere vellum to the yellow cardstock
  5. Cut strip of ribbon and attach to vellum; leave right end longer to allow you to wrap it around and into the inside of the card (between the first and second 'pages')
  6. Take CD case and punch all 4 corners
  7. Ink paper casted house with pink and green Autumn Leaves inks, including edges
  8. Ink lightly with Tsukineko Cosmic Copper across 'face' of house.
  9. Cut the same printed vellum from above, to size, to fit inside the CD cover.
  10. Adhere House to vellum with 3D Zots.
  11. Before inserting house and vellum into CD Case, glue back of case ( I used Scotch Runner)
  12. Insert vellum and house, fold over flap of case and stick to card.
  13. Cut 4 small floral picks keeping stem just long enough to thread through centre hole of each corner punch, but not too long that it will show in the window.
  14. Write sentiment on same vellum stock, using a special marker like Kuretake Vellum Writer, cut to size and stick to front. :)

Impressionism - Tonight on In the Zone - ep. June 20,2011

If you missed tonight's episode of In the Zone with Cyn Gagen and Robi Cohen,  here is the link to the recording of the show:

 Impressionism
Renoir
The 1800's to early 1900's were a time of incredible discovery and experimentation in the art world.  The 'Impressionists' were mainly in France, centred around Paris, and together ushered Art through  the Victorian age, the Industrial Revolution and their Neoclassical and Romantic eras.

Degas
Delacroix        Turner         Corot             Courbet
         Monet        Manet                Renoir         Pissarro
              Cassatt  Morisot         Degas  Van Gogh
     Gauguin                        Cezanne                           Seurat

Monet

Are you familiar with all of these names? Who is your favourite?
I couldn't pick a favourite; it would be impossible. I cannot possibly compare Degas natural beauty of a ballet dancer preparing to perform to the fantastical swirls and colours of Van Gogh's Starry Night.

What are the key elements to most of the Impressionists' paintings?
Space
Colour
Effect

I enjoyed showing how I took pictures and edited them to have an 'impressionistic look'.

Here is my demo for pointillism.
Using a piece of cardstock and many markers, I created this landscape just placing dots on the page. The markers had tips of all shapes and sizes.

Just dots!
Demo #2 - how to draw a landscape
Thank you for visiting and I hope you enjoy watching the show.
