When you can't use one arm...

Sketching with my thumb and index finger...
It was an absolutely gorgeous day today so what's better than to get in a comfy recliner and sketch? Here's what I was doing... :)

Mixed Media Mermaid Card for Addicted-to-Stamps

I am loving this design team because the selection of stamps is extensive and many are absolutely beautiful. The artwork is exceptional and I am getting to 'know' the various artists and their styles.  I am finding myself attracted to images I wouldn't have chosen before and this is great for me because it is too easy to settle into a certain groove.  Tara's mermaids, this is one of her Mermaid Sisters set, have luscious lines and it inspired me to incorporate my watercolours.

Elements used: 140 lb cold press watercolour paper, watercolour paints, Inktense pencils, chalk, Stickles, Sakura 3D Lacquer, Peel Offs, Kaleidoscope ink pad, stamps, Glitter pens, wire, beads, and Fantasy Film.

Mermaid Tara McDonald Medrano Digi Stamp.  If you would like to purchase this stamp you may find it here.

Thank you for stopping by!

The 3 C's of Crafting Happiness!

Crop, Create, and Chocolate!!!

I just signed up for the January 2012 Crop & Create in Markham, Ontario, organized by Scrapbook & Cards Today.  I'm really excited and still super pumped-up from Scrapfest, which I attended a few weeks ago in Oshawa, Ontario.

It is close-to-home, which is a huge bonus, but I think I am going to stay at the hotel Friday and Saturday night just in case of inclement weather. (and I wouldn't want to be stressing about driving conditions 'cuz it could mess up my creative karma!).

What's even better, it is the weekend of my 13th wedding anniversary to Sid (we were married on January 10th) and he will come with me and then I can 'write off' our Anniversary celebration!  (It's at times like this that I'm glad I am also a creative accountant).

The Early Bird cost of $149 gives you a 6 foot table for all your scrapping, lots of events and challenges, food, CHOCOLATE, and a goody bag. Classes are extra and you have to be registered for the Event to sign up for any of the classes.
There are a couple of discounted class packages available :)

The 3 classes I am taking are:

Technique Savvy Workshop

Teacher: Vicki Boutin $10 kit fee due at time of class

 Make Your Own Embellishments

Teacher: Becky Fleck

"LifeBook 101" ...a new way of thinking and journaling
Teacher: Angela Urbano

I took a class with Vicki Boutin at Scrapfest and had a most amazing time - she is fantastic! There were a few more classes I would have liked to take but the times conflicted. :(

I can't wait!

Recycled for Art's Sake - Cuttlebug to the Rescue

Quiz time:When is an aluminium seal for a tin of coffee capable of soaring miles above the earth?

When it's a hot air balloon!

Using a ProvoCraft Cuttlebug 'gears' folder, I ran my seal through my Cuttlebug and, eventhough I had planned to cut off the pesky little part where you pull it off the can, I was thrilled to discover that THAT was the part making it a balloon!
And voila! My Bon Voyage card created because I drink coffee!

What I Did
For the balloon - Cuttlebug 'Gears' folder, aluminium lid, alcohol inks, embroidery floss, postage stamp sticker for basket.
Card stock from DCWV. I ran several Kaleidoscope ink pads along the paper and then used the bicycle stamp I purchased from the $1.50 bin at Michaels.
Sentiment  and bottom border from a kit ( sorry, don't remember the name).
Adhesive - double-sided tape and Glossy Accents
Rangers distress and Archival Ink (olive) for edges.

Thank you for stopping by!

Experimenting with Art - The Ladies Series (Chalk)

So, I have taken a liking to some of the ladies I drew today.

Here is Blue eyes Green shadow and 2 ways to work with/learn from/enjoy your art.

I think it's fascinating how the collage 'breaks down' the elements of the drawing. You can study each tile whether it is for form or colour or composition.

The Lomo Effect is created using ACDSee Pro5.  It gives a beautiful vibrance to the drawing and looks fantastic when the artwork is printed out!
