Valentine's Last Minute Crafts: Clearsnap and Ann Butler Designs

Valentine's Day Craft: Distressed Photo Art Canvas

Valentines photo art canvas Roberta Birnbaum

I am participating today in a fun blog hop with Clearsnap and Ann Butler Designs. I was happy to create this photo canvas in loving tribute to my mother who I have not had with me for almost 15 years.

She is the subject in the photo I am using.

Leave a comment at the end of my Post and you could win a Prize Pack from Clearsnap!

Materials:
12x12 White wrapped canvas
Various collage/decoupage papers
Photograph
ColorBox Crafter's® inks by Ann Butler: Ocean Breeze, Canyon, Berry Pink
ColorBox® Art Screen by Ann Butler , Lattice
ColorBox® Background Basics by Ann Butler, Picnic
ColorBox® Glitter, winter frost
DecoArt® gesso, white
DecoArt® modeling paste
DecoArt® decoupage medium, matte
Large background stencil, floral
Gel or puffy paint pen for written sentiment
Embellishments

Tools: spatula or old credit card, ColorBox® art daubers

Instructions:
  1. Tear your papers and create a collage on your canvas by spreading the decoupage medium on the surface of your canvas and then placing the papers randomly until the surface is covered.
  2. Adhere your photo with the decoupage medium and give it 2 thin coats on top; waiting 10 minutes between the coats.
  3. Place the large floral stencil on top and spread a medium coat of modeling paste with the spatula. Let it dry.
  4. Apply a medium layer of gesso around the photo.
  5. Take your stamp and press it once into some of the gesso and off-stamp it elsewhere on the canvas. Wipe your stamp and continue doing this until you have stamped around the whole photo and off-stamped onto your canvas.

  6. Randomly sprinkle glitter over wet gesso and shake off the rest. Allow canvas to dry.

  7. Using a dauber, randomly gently rub and/or dry-brush with the Ocean Breeze, Canyon, and Berry Pink inks across the dried paste and gesso, and on the canvas.
  8. Place your embellishments: * I used hearts I created using Ann Butler Iridescents and Makin's Clay  ( but that is a whole post unto itself  - TBA) and the butterfly was cut from cardstock and heat embossed.
